One of the newest entrants into the food truck space is Wonder, which creates restaurant food in a truck right outside a customer’s location.
It’s the brainchild of Marc Lore, the Jet.com founder who sold his Amazon competing e-commerce site to Walmart for over $3 billion, according to a Bloomberg report.
Wonder partners with local restaurants, paying them a fee, and its chefs learn menu offerings that can be created in a nearby commissary and sent out on a food truck where it is warmed right before delivery to a customer’s home.
It all runs via a smartphone app and is in operation in a small town in New Jersey.
Lore expects to expand, thanks to investor funding that’s hit $500 million and counting, taking its 60 food trucks to 1,000 by the start of 2023.
